Reinventing and Sticking to your Identity

Here’s a secret…   Words trump thoughts.  Actions trump words.  It’s like that game of paper-rock-scissors.   When your brain says you’re not a writer — then tell people you’re a writer.  And when your talking isn’t enough, then take action.  Join a class or workshop that will support your new identity.  And write.

I found an interesting method for a creative generation some time ago. This was to exchange words.

You could refashion Chuck Palahniuk's statement not only in being writer, but when you're striving towards a goal, when you're trying reinvent yourself, and have a new identity.

Words trump thoughts. Action trump words. It's like that game or paper-rock-scissors. When your brain says you're not (insert whatever you're trying to be), then tell people you're a (insert whatever you're trying to be). And when your talking isn't enough, then take action. Join a class or workshop that will support your new identity. And (do whatever you're trying to be doing).
