Amélie (France - 2001)
I vaguely remember the first time I saw Amelie. It was around 4 or 5 years ago. I remember the effect it had on me more than what I think i learned or took from it. Maybe I was too young, when I first saw it. I don't know. But that first time I saw it, I was impressed beyond my mind.
Like being sucked in so much into a character and heavily identifying into these works of someone's imagination.
After watching it again now, the effects have subsided. But the identities of the characters seemed to have gotten more depth.
Love is such a wonderful feeling. Maybe this is why I like this film so much. It appears simple enough, but not really. The story is a beauty.
There's substance in it. The shots are magnificent, like moving stills or photographs.
Maybe one reason why it's easy to identify with Amelie is that people know the feeling of longing, and as a child, daydreaming, running your imagination and fantasy alive. Then you realize, you're quite different.
Amelie is an easily lovable character. She finds contentment in simple pleasures. She finds happiness in helping fix her neighbors otherwise helpless lives as well. I might as well be describing what an ideal partner would be, personally.
Highly recommend this movie. 2nd favorite film of all time.
