Poem: Brace yourself

This is it It's time This is the grace period It has arrived This is the tunnel at the end of the light It's far but's it's there

A Context of Time and Perspective

I had this conversation with a friend before. It was at a campus job fair in Valenzuela. It was at the end of the day, and the students were filtering out; going to their classes, going home, going somewhere. Me: I miss going to college She: Yea Me:  I t was not easy. Come to think of it, It seemed like the most important thing in the world back then. Like the problems were the hardest;  a paper barely finished, or a defense thing just about to come up.  But now looking back, they seemed minor compared to now.   She: (a mumbled group of words i can't remember now) Me: Do you ever think your future self is thinking about you now?  What would they say? Do you think they'd be saying the same thing?

Thoughts: New Year's Resolution to Half a Year's Introspection

This new year, i made a resolution. I called it a counter-intuitive resolution. I wanted something i haven't had in a long time. It's counter-intuitive, because i could never have it. I could, but i wouldn't. There are circumstances beyond my moral reasoning. I'm too nice for my own good. I believed that your happiness shouldn't be at the expense of another. How can you be happy if you're taking something away from someone's idea of happiness? Anyway, i figured it's an easy resolution to make. Plus, it's one resolution i would gladly fail. If I fail at it, I win. If succeed, well, too bad.  The months came, i keep succeeding. It's like winning but it's heart-breaking at the same time. I've learned a lot these past few months. I've rediscovered emotions that have been unfamiliar to me in a long time. I feel i'm more aware now.  I have this thought i typed in my phone: May 23, 2014  "It's a positive thing to k...

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001 - India)

How about settling taxes over a cricket match? That's the premise.  Bollywood films are interesting. You can build a stereotype over them with lots of dances or a whole lot more dances. This one's a very long film; around 3 and half hours long. Minus the dances, you could probably fit it into 2 hours. So i'm saying it now, it felt a bit long. The story's well made. At first, I just can't believe the whole base of the story is a settlement of taxes over a cricket match. At some point, that's comical. Now, i don't know if there's ever been a real deal of things over a game. There probably was, but who knows. I just had a thought of that Sandler Film, The Longest Yard. They almost have the same backbone, except in the longest yard, they play football. Back to the story, it's basically one linear progression of events with a long the way a touch of a love story. A captain raises the tax twice. This angers the farmers. They g...

The Rules of the Game (1939)

The Rules of the Game (1939 - France) I'm not sure if this was a representation of the people and era it was in. If it were, i'm thinking it could be a set of people only. Like a small group or class. First overall impressions about it, is that it's like a teen movie with an older age group. People running around chasing "love".  It's like a smack of nobility and adolescent impulses. Or maybe people just don't grow up.  To be fair, it was informative. So this is how, people in the that time spent their time. This is how they party. They spend a couple days in someone's "castle"; Hunt for rabbits, quails and dogs; watch a small theater with everyone else as well and chase around their lovers and their lover's lovers. Take away quotes:  " The awful thing about life is this: Everybody has their reasons."  The character says this when he is faced with the fact that he has to please two people with conflicting interest...
